Airport Information
About KCQF
H. L. “Sonny” Callahan Airport is a public-use airport located three nautical miles (4 mi, 6 km) southeast of the central business district of Fairhope, Alabama, in Baldwin County. It is owned and operated by the Fairhope Airport Authority. This airport is included in the FAA’s National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems and is categorized as a general aviation facility. Traffic at the airport is primarily private and corporate.
Scheduled service for this region is provided by Mobile Regional Airport and Pensacola Regional Airport. Although most U.S. airports use the same three-letter location identifier for the FAA and IATA, this airport is assigned CQF by the FAA, but has no designation from the IATA (which assigned CQF to Calais – Dunkerque Airport in France).
The History of KCQF
Originally dedicated by Lt Governor James B. Allen on July 12, 1964, the airport has served Fairhope and the greater eastern shore for 60 years. In March, 2007, the city of Fairhope turned over control of the airport to the airport authority and loaned the authority $8.8 million for improvements. The authority is currently building a new General Aviation terminal with help from an FAA grant to better serve the growing traffic seen at the airport.
